Dermaplaning: Safe, Gentle Exfoliation for Smooth, Radiant Skin

The procedure aims to give facial skin a smooth, youthful, and radiant Appearance by removing soft facial hair that traps dirt and oils. Smoothing skin and removing “peach fuzz,” dermaplaning can help with acne scars, dry skin, sun-damaged skin, and small wrinkles.

This is a great treatment for those who are pregnant or nursing and want a deep exfoliation but are not allowed to use peeling agents on the skin due of the risk of chemicals being absorbed into the blood stream which may be transferred to the fetus or the child.

Dermaplaning: The Gentle, Safe Exfoliation for Sensitive Skin

Dermaplaning can be an effective exfoliation method for clients that have coupe rose (tiny blood vessels near the surface of the skin), sensitive skin or allergies that prevent the use of microdermabrasion or chemical peels.

Quick answers to questions you may have

What does dermaplaning involve?

Dermaplaning is a skin resurfacing procedure that people use to give the skin a
smoother appearance. It uses a blade to remove the top layer of the dead skin and vellous hair by exfoliating the epidermis.

Is it safe?

The procedure is simple and very safe when applied by a qualified professional.

Does the procedure hurt?

Most clients describe it as a light feathering strokes or brushing sensation — similar to a gentle razor gliding across the skin, and that its painless.

Many people find the experience relaxing, dermaplaning is purely mechanical exfoliation.

Can I have dermaplaning with acne?

People with active acne should stay away until the breakouts dry out. Because the resurfacing treatment will irritate the acne and cause further inflammation.

What is the aftercare?

Gentle & Non-Invasive Exfoliation. Unlike some chemical treatments, dermaplaning is suitable for all skin types and requires no downtime.

Dermaplaning has very little downtime, and the side effects include leaving your skin a little red and puffy but not for long. In some cases, flaking can occur after 48-72 hours, but once that’s out of the way, you will be left with a glowing complexion.

Apply SPF 30+ daily – your skin will be more sensitive to the sun.
Use a gentle, hydrating cleanser and moisturizer to support healing. Stay hydrated – inside and out!
Follow with calming serums (like hyaluronic acid) for extra nourishment.

Avoid for 24–48 hours: Direct sun exposure or tanning beds, Exfoliating products (like retinol, AHAs/BHAs, scrubs), Hot showers, saunas, or steam rooms
Heavy makeup (for 24 hours, ideally)
Touching your face excessively, as skin is more vulnerable to bacteria

How often is it recommended?

Dermaplaning is generally recommended every 3 to 4 weeks, which aligns with the skin’s natural regeneration cycle.
